Members are again reminded that
on Sunday, August 20, a half-day of casting tuition has been organised
at the Red Tag Pool, Fairfield, for those who would like some free casting tuition by VFFA member and highly qualified casting instructor, Ian Sambell.

OJuly 20th Meeting – with Daniel Hackettur July meeting is another lunchtime meeting, and we will enjoy the occasion with an outstanding guest – Daniel Hackett. Daniel is a Tasmanian guide and his business, RiverFly 1864, is based in Launceston. RiverFly 1864 has been operating since 2005, when it was originally founded as a river-based guiding business. It is owned and operated by Daniel and Simone Hackett, and it has grown to become one of Tasmania’s most respected guided fly-fishing operations.

Our speaker for the June meeting isBernard Holbery, well known to usall through his many newslettercontributions. Bernard is a highly skilledangler who spends a lot of his timefishing the rivers around Buxton andTaggerty.

The day when no cane rod should be left at home alone. Bring your dear old friend and admire someone else’s.

He first learned to cast a fly at the age of twelve, and subsequently learned his craft from some of Australia’s finest fly-fishers, fly tiers, guides and writers. The rivers and streams of Victoria’s north-east and Snowy Mountains, and the lakes of Victoria’s Goldfield and volcanic regions have all been the backdrop to what many called a “misspent youth”.

Our speakers for the April meeting are Antony Boliancu, Werner Birkner and Bo Nikolic. They are all guides at the Goulburn Valley Fly Fishing Centre, and at the April 2017 meeting they plan to talk about some very exciting trout fishing on the Goulburn in the last couple of seasons since the drought broke, along with their experiences fly fishing in Idaho and Montana.

Andrew Mossman has agreed to speak at our March meeting. Andrew is a longstanding member of the Association and a very experienced and immensely successful fly fisher and fly tier. He commenced fly fishing in the 1950’s with his father, and got to know the rivers in our state’s north-east and in southern NSW. He also spent a lot of time fishing Tasmania’s rivers and highland lakes, and has ample photographic evidence of big bags of large fish deceived and caught in Little Pine and elsewhere.
