The February 27th, 2019 Meeting: ‘Liar’s Night’

Yes – a return to tradition – the first meeting of the year being a review of the successes of some of our members over recent months.

Plans are afoot, and many of our members have had interesting and challenging fishing experiences over the holiday period. Some have fished New Zealand, others have cast a fly or two in the lakes and rivers of Tasmania, and of course our local waters have been visited too.

VFFA Tasmanian trip for February 2019

Arrangements for our trip to Tasmania next February are now complete and the Notice of Event follows this note. Fishing in Tasmania has seen a great improvement over the past couple of seasons. A small contingent of members has just returned from Hayes on Brumby’s and they had a great week catching trout to 3 pound in the lakes along with fish from the rivers taken on dry flies.

Christmas Dinner with John Philbrick

John hardly needs any introduction.
He joined the VFFA in 1970 and has been a hard-working and very significant contributor ever since. He was editor of the newsletter for 13 years, was president for the period 2002 – 2004, and was endorsed as a Life Member in 2004.

The August Annual Dinner with Peter Morse

This year’s annual dinner is on Friday, August 24, and will be held at the Kelvin Club. The cost is again $70 for members and their guests, and an invitation is included in Fly Lines and all members with email addresses.

The July meeting with Terry George from the ATF

At the July meeting Terry George will be telling us about the work of the Australian Trout Foundation.
Terry is a VFFA member and has been president of the ATF for some years now. He still runs his own business while at the same time giving hours of his personal free time to the work and projects of the ATF.

John is a Fisheries Manger with the Victorian Fisheries Authority. He has over three decades of experience in fisheries and fisheries management.
